Coordinating Editor

Investigate Europe (IE), a network of cross-border journalists from across Europe, is looking for a Coordinating Editor to join its team.

About the Role

Investigate Europe is looking for a senior journalist to join our team as Coordinating Editor.

Applicants will have a strong background working on in-depth projects and managing complex investigations. The ideal candidate will have an outstanding track record of delivering impactful investigative stories and demonstrable experience of working with national or international newsrooms.

This is a full-time remote position based anywhere in Europe.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate Investigate Europe’s cross-border investigations from conception to publication with media partners internationally
  • Working with a team of reporters, the Coordinating Editor will guide and oversee investigations published across print, online, TV and radio
  • Coordinate and manage media partner relationships, assist with identifying new partnerships and onboarding reporters into collaborative projects
  • Edit investigative stories in English from our reporters around Europe, in coordination with the Investigations Editor
  • Work closely with the Editorial Director and others to plan and schedule investigations
  • Coordinate work relating to research, data, audience engagement and innovation to elevate investigation projects
  • Pitch original, innovative investigation ideas and maintain excellent contacts
  • Bring new ideas on how to package and present investigations
  • Support journalists who range in experience from veteran investigative reporters to newer journalists

Skills & Experience

Essential
  • At least five years’ experience managing or leading investigations as a reporter or editor
  • Experience in coordinating reporters and working on collaborative projects
  • Proven track record of delivering stories of high public interest and impact
  • Strong organisational skills — ability to manage multiple projects and relationships with external partners
  • Fluency in English and excellent writing skills
  • Strong ability to edit stories in English and produce clear and engaging copy
  • Excellent attention to detail and exemplary fact-checking
  • Able to work autonomously and to strict deadlines
  • Experience working with senior editors to ensure investigations are legally sound
  • Strong communication skills
  • Able to think creatively on how to present investigations in new and innovative ways
 Desired
  • Experience managing cross-border investigations
  • Expertise in European issues
  • Fluency in other European languages
  • Knowledge and experience of the non-profit journalism sector
