El precariado se extiende por Europa

Contratos de trabajo sin seguridad social, empleos a tiempo parcial involuntarios, trabajos de duración determinada. En todo el continente, millones de europeos tienen que lidiar con empleos precarios y mal pagados, aunque la economía marcha en general mejor que en ningún otro momento de la última década.

En todo el continente, millones de europeos tienen que lidiar con empleos precarios y mal pagados, aunque la economía marcha en general mejor que en ningún otro momento de la última década.
 
Solo en la eurozona, más de cinco millones y medio de personas han encontrado un nuevo empleo desde finales de 2012. Pero cuatro de cada cinco son contratos a tiempo parcial o temporales y, en su mayoría, mal pagados, según Eurostat.

La mayoría de los afectados quieren otra cosa –puestos fijos a tiempo completo–, admite la Comisión Europea en su último informe sobre el mercado laboral de la UE. El auge del empleo en Europa es en su mayoría de "baja calidad", concluye Merrill Lynch, la división de gestión de patrimonios de Bank of America. 

"Todas estas relaciones laborales inseguras son extremadamente caras tanto para los afectados como para la sociedad", advierte Olivier Blanchard, hasta 2015 economista jefe del Fondo Monetario Internacional.

Pero, ¿por qué la "precarización del trabajo", como la llaman los sociólogos, ha alcanzado esta magnitud? ¿Y qué hay que hacer para detenerla?
