Web Content Editor & Coordinator

Investigate Europe, a network of cross-border journalists from across Europe, is looking for a Web Content Editor & Coordinator to join its team.

About the Role

Our team of reporters work together for months on one investigation, and publish their findings and articles at the same time. Articles are published by the reporters in national outlets across Europe (in local languages). Moreover, we also produce exclusive content for our website and social media channels in four different languages (English, German, Italian, and French).

We are looking for a journalist to run our website. You should have experience working as a newsroom editor and also have some experience in leading sub-editors or content producers.

Responsibilities

  • Liaise with editorial staff to stay updated on the status of investigations, working together to build an editorial calendar
  • Contribute with ideas on possible stories and storytelling for IE’s website and social media channels  
  • Prepare publication strategies and priorities for the different publication channels 
  • Edit drafts (including language editing in English) and rough copy, ensuring that the highest journalistic standards are met – this includes feedback on style, narrative structure and flow
  • Upload content on WordPress, ensuring optimal layout (with images) and care for SEO.
  • Liaise with a team of translators and producers for the non-English websites, updating them on the publication calendar so that they can decide whether they will translate to their language
  • Provide copy editing for newsletter and develop content ideas together with IE’s Community Coordinator
  • Contribute to Investigate Europe’s Podcast production 
  • Provide feedback and input on website structure and offer suggestions for improvement

Required Qualifications

  • Native level English proficiency; other language skills welcomed
  • Proven track record working as an editor in a fast-paced environment, preferably a newsroom
  • Familiarity with, or desire to become familiar with, European affairs and cross-border reporting, including EU institutions
  • Ability to work successfully with a cross-border team, across differing language proficiency levels and cultural backgrounds
  • Ability to write clear copy and iterate complex ideas in a simple language, suitable for article leads and social media captions.
