Food duality in Europe

Investigate Europe’s Polish reporter Wojciech Cieśla spoke to the Investigate Europe podcast about co-coordinating the cross-border effort to uncover food duality in Europe. Cieśla shared that the initiative was born out a desire to investigate accusations of dual quality in ingredients sold across Europe. Despite having identical packaging, products in some countries had different ingredients. While there were no strong indications of an East-West bias of food duality in Europe, there were two ingredients that stood out as being more prevalent in Eastern European countries: palm oil and glucose syrup. Cieśla also discussed what the findings meant for food parity in Europe and what consumers could do to advocate for more equality.
